Over 300 species of birds, 180 of which are nesting and breeding, can be found in the Neman delta. The most important nest sites of many of the rare or endangered species in Lithuania are located in the Neman delta, the surrounding fields, bogs and forests. The Neman Delta Regional Park has 58 species of breeding birds entered into the Red Book of Lithuania and 54 species that are enlisted into the List of Threatened Bird Species of the European Union.
